Wanting to become a police officer but have a poor driving record?
Q: I would like to become a police officer, but as I'm reading qualifications for different areas around me (Northern Cincinnati) I'm seeing things stating having 6 points on your lisence can disqualify you.Well, I had an issue in my past with a lead foot, and I got myself up to 8 points. In the past year, I've had a lot of responsibility changes, I got married, got a real job that I cared about (past tense, which is why I'm looking to make a change. Law enforcement has always been a passion for me), and feel that my speeding is behind me. I have no other issues in my past with the law, no drug history, just the speeding. How likely is it that my driving record alone will keep me away from being able to become a police officer? As a side note, for my current job I had to pass a background check to obtain a SECRET clearence with the US Air Force, so like I said, the only thing in my past is my driving record.Any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated.
A: I think what you read was a guidelines page, and a few traffic tickets ought not to be a major impediment. As in most fields, there is 'discretionary' room when looking at an applicant and the guidelines.
