What temperature should my hedgie be kept in?

Proper temperature would be 73-76 degrees F. This needs to be consistent around the year.

Hedgehog Questions? Please help?

Q: Okay, so I'll be getting a hedgehog soon, and I am so, so excited. Out of all the animals I've had, a hedgehog is completely new! I've been looking at pictures and I think I am in love (again.) But the thing is, I really need to learn more about them, because I hate, hate, hate going into things without knowing them from head to toe. Or Spike to Spike. 1.) Do they NEED to eat mealworms? Is their possibly a supplement for this? 2.) What temperature, (celcius,) should they be kept in? How do I keep them warm/cold enough?3.) I know their are a lot of pros, are their any cons?4.) How much do they cost from a breeder, for a average-dark color? My parents wouldn't go for the albino thing...5.) What are some cute hedgie names? I'll add the names of my pets in the ADDITIONAL DETAILS so you can have a taste of what I like... * PLEASE * No stupid answers. No names like Lady Hodgeheg / Sonic... I want really names here, people. No mean comments. Thanks! 10 points goes to the person who gives me the most information!3 birds - Emmy, Lawrie, Tally 4 cats - Vegas, Miles, Lyric and Tamsin. 1 turtle - Squirtle. 1 Bearded Dragon - Aidan 2 dogs - Mocah and Chauncy 1 Ferret - Slink 2 Rabbits - Alice and Bella (No, this is NOT from twilight, I had Alice since 2002, three years before twilight was made.)

A: 1. Yes, you can feed them cooked meats with no season trying to drain as much fat as possible. I use hamburger once or twice a month. Chicken you could use more often. Cut in tiny pieces and give him about a table spoon. High protein cat food is good, for treats you can use cat treats, fresh fruits, baby food, or cooked egg whites. 2. To warm you don't really have to worry about. To keep them warm in the winter, I use a heating pad and a bin cage. A heating pad shouldn't take up more then half the cage space as they need someplace to go where they can cool off. I use a normal heating pad you would get for yourself from the health section of a supermart. They need to stay about 70 F and if i am converting it right is about 21 degrees C. 3. Here are what i come up with for cons there are pro's on my site as well:1. They have spines that if they are angry at you they may poke you with. They do not come off as they are just hollow hair.2. Need weekly baths with baby oil to prevent dry skin.3. Have to be keep between 68-82 degrees Fahrenheit4. Need a special solid surface wheel5. Need a large selection of food6. You should only get one from a breeder7. May keep you up at night while he or she runs their wheel being mostly nocturnal8. You can't discipline them you have to use the rewards system.9. A lot of the commercial products for them are actually harmful so you have to be careful and read all labels first4. I paid 90 for mine but usually about $120 to $300 here is a list to go for breeders not sure where you are from so click the area and most have websites that list the pricehttp://hedgehogcentral.com/breeders.shtml5. I like cute names. Mine is Mr. Sonic Choggly. But I liked Emmie Hedgieway, Alfred Hedgecock, Prickles, and such Here is a warning I seen you had a ferret make sure you keep these too apart as they are natural enemies and it will cause stress on them both if they can see each others cages. Hedgehogs have been known to throw themselves at their cage walls to try and escape because they felt threaten by ferrets. Make sure to get a solid bottom wheel and cage as their legs can get caught and broken between the bars. Hopes this helps. Allyssa& MR. Choggly
