What is the proper format for presenting a speech at a US Congressional Hearing?
Q: My associate is being considered to present a speech at a US Congressional Hearing. He is not yet sure of the date or the Committee involved. He will be talking about his research results, which involve WWII history in the Pacific. (Previously, he has communicated with the State Dept.)My associate studied law in the university, but he has never addressed a Congressional committee before. Are there samples of such speeches available on the internet for reference? He is thinking that there may be some sort of standard type opening for such a speech. Is there normally a ten minute time limit, or what? He is hoping to find some guidelines, and obtain all relevant advice and suggestions, so he can begin writing his speech. Any help would be appreciated. We suppose that some online resources are probably available, but we are not sure how to find them.
A: You can do an archive search on the Federal News Service (FNS) website to find speeches that other persons have given. You will want to enter some "keywords" for your search.See -- http://www.fnsg.com/archive.htm
