What is meant by the indefectibility of the Catholic Church?
Q:
A: Oh boy, that's a new one to me. If it's what it sounds like, that's an absurd doctrine. Jesus promised the "gates of hell will not prevail" against the Church. And Revelation promises that she will one day be "without spot or wrinkle." But, as she is now, there's a whole lotta defects. Of the seven churches depicted in Revelation, the church of Philadelphia was the best, but not perfect. Some of the others had real problems, even to the point of being threatened with loss. "I will spew you out of my mouth..." the Lord threatens the Laodiceans. But I'm sure the Catholic Church has done an admirable job of explaining this doctrine. They always do; and to their credit, it's usually backed up biblically and well spoken. I suppose it means that Jesus is always watching over his flock and that he is bringing us to perfection. That's true.Yours in Christ, NickHere's a good scripture to think about:"Anyone who thinks he stands, take heed, lest he fall."(1st Corinthians 10:12)
