If you get get recruited by a college for a sport, is it automatic admission?

Q: I've been recruited to a college for swimming, but my grades suck. So if I have already been recruited, does that mean they won't look at my grades and that I'm already accepted?

A: Coaches for a particular sport at specific colleges try to recruit good athletes for their team. That means that, when admissions officers are making decisions about who to let it, coaches send them their list of people they really want. If the applicant is eligible for the college, e.g. their grades and other stats meet the minimum standards that the college wants, and they're high up on that list, then chances are, that student will be accepted. Admissions officers still have to look at your grades and everything else on your trascript, but you'll be given a slight to major break depending on whether you're on the swim coach's list and you're position on that list.
