How do you find free legal advice?
Q: I have a friend that is going through a sticky break-up, and needs advice on some situations such as real estate and other financial situations. Most phone calls end up at divorce lawyers and so forth, where the friend is told "wrong office" and such, since the couple was not married. Is there a website that will steer people to the right lawyer type/office? And will they refer a person to a local office in the town the friend lives in? Is there a website like this?
A: Findlaw.com is a half decent site, although when it comes to lawyers I generally prefer word of mouth or references. What you basically need is a generalist lawyer. As far as real estate lawyers go, if you know a local agent, they would be a good reference.
