Insufficient funds on paychecks curious about unemployment?

Q: I have worked about a year for this company that on more than one occasion has given their employees rubber checks. When the paycheck came back due to insufficient funds, it caused about 10 of my checks to bounce. My bank is charging $20 dollars per returned item. I took this to my employer and the owner of the company advised me that he would pay for every returned item. This past Friday is the 3rd time that our checks were issued and there were insufficient funds again. I have yet to see reimbursement for all of my returned checks as well. This seems to be a trend with this company and I was wondering if I can collect unemployment if I leave my job? If I can collect unemployment, how do I go about getting my money back for those returned checks?

A: The employer can be held liable for every bounced payroll check including all the bank fees you incurred. You don't get unemployment if you volunteer to leave your job. Depending on the job, some employers are exempt to unemployment compensation such as if you are a 1099 contractor.I would get a new job. Sounds as if the company is running out of money or is irresponsible with their money.
