Q: I cant figure out what is so wrong in my life or in me. It started out with severely deep depretion 5 years ago and has evolved into extreme panic attacks, general anxiety and an overall uneasiness most of the time. Everything as far as friends and family are gone now,, I mean that I cannot relate to them or talk to them. I have wondered if I have cancer even,, or maybe some debilitating disease. I havent gone to the doctor since I was young and remember feeling very uncomfortable there. My panic attacks can get really severe sometimes and I worry when I go to see the doctor it will make me look so stupid and pathetic. I am embarrased to tell a doctor all of this stuff and worry I will feel so humiliated I wont even be able to talk about it. I havent been in so long I dont even have a family doctor and dont know how to go about this. Have you had positive experiences talking with a doctor about things like this? I am 30 years old now and support myself just barely so a psychologist is not an option.
A: There are some good doctors out there.Try a family practice doctor that has his office to himself verses a group.Any one that you can get suggestions for who to see? If not, call a hospital during off hours.Ask to speak to the nursing supervisor.Tell her your problem briefly and ask her to give you some names. The doctor will probably have you get some lab work.Ask him to order you minimum lab work for your budget.Panic attacks are very debilitating.I am sorry that you are suffering, but things really can get much better.
